Faith@Work – Catholic Books, Gifts, and Cafe
Our favorite Catholic bookstore is just around the corner at 1977 E. Wattles in the Infinity Square Plaza. They stock over 850 titles, as well as gift items including jewelry, rosaries, art, First Communion gifts, and crucifixes. They also sell Capuchin baked goods and Canticle Cafe coffee and candles. There are great T-shirts with faith-based messages and even Christian CDs and videos. Best of all, Faith@Work is non-profit; all realized profits support charitable causes in our neighborhood and worldwide.
Bethany Christian Service
Children in foster care have been removed from their families because of neglect and abuse. These children need a loving family who will walk with them during a time of crisis and welcome them unconditionally into a temporary, caring home. Millions of children around the world are in need of a loving family. As a full-service agency, we offer infant adoption, international adoption, and foster care adoption. 30685 Barrington, Madison Heights, MI 48071
Covenant House
2959 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Detroit 48208.
Covenant House offers shelter and resources for our teens who are too old for the foster care system and are homeless, lost, or abused.
Through a combination of support strategies, including educational programs, job training and placement, medical services, mental health and substance abuse counseling, legal aid and beyond, we help young people embrace the great promise of their lives, overcome steep barriers to independence and strive to achieve their aspirations. Your efforts can make a difference.
St. Aloysius
St. Aloysius is seeking volunteers to serve the homeless and hungry on the streets near the church. They also seek groups to make food to be handed out. They are located at 1234 Washington Boulevard in Detroit. Please email Mike Carstens or give him a call at 313.237.5810 to discover how you can help. All food is stored at St. Josaphat.
Mary’s Mantle
Mary’s Mantle is a local Catholic residential home for expectant mothers that are in need of shelter and support. The home serves women of all faiths that are at least 18 years old. Our hope is that by immersing them in an environment rich in love, compassion, faith, and positive role models they will grow in self-confidence and self-knowledge and will work towards a better way of life for themselves and their babies. Donations can be made payable to Mary’s Mantle and sent to P.O. Box 115, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48303-0115.
Matchan Soup Kitchen, SVDP
For a number of years, a group of people from our parish have assisted once a month at the Matchan Soup Kitchen in Pontiac. This center is operated by the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a number of churches offer their services to help in the preparation and serving of the NOON meal. This particular Soup Kitchen operates Tuesday and Thursday. The time commitment is from 8:30 a.m. (when they leave from Troy) until about 2:00 p.m. (when they return). A few hours a month to serve the poor and hungry would be a wonderful gift of giving. If you would like more information or are willing to volunteer as a substitute, please call Christine Devine 248.408.1692.
